The Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) is an association
of member golf clubs, governed by amateur golfers, dedicated to
serving the best interests of golf in the Pacific Northwest. Since
1899, the PNGA, through its many volunteers, has made a difference
in the game, by preserving its history and traditions, by investing
in its future, and by offering high-quality membership services.
Historically, the PNGA has served as the regional representative
of the United States Golf Association and as the trans-regional
organization for state and provincial amateur golf associations
in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Alberta, and British
Columbia.
Over 500 golf clubs and 175,000 golfers – both men and women
– currently enjoy the many benefits derived from membership
in the PNGA.

As a member club of the PNGA, all of your members are eligible to
compete in PNGA championships.
Each year, the PNGA conducts 13, major, regional, amateur championships
for men, women, juniors, and seniors throughout the Northwest. PNGA
championships are recognized as among the finest amateur events
in North America. Each has a long and unique history with some of
the greatest names in golf as past champions, including JoAnne (Gunderson)
Carner, Mary Budke, Fred Couples, and Tiger Woods, to name just
a few.
As a member, your club will automatically be sent a supply of entry
forms for each championship in the spring of each year. PNGA members

As a member club, each of your members have the opportunity to receive
a copy of the PNGA’s upscale, glossy magazine, entitled Pacific
Northwest Golfer, as a membership benefit. Four issues (quarterly)
will be mailed directly to the homes or offices of your individual
members each year.
To receive this outstanding publication chronicling golf activities
throughout the Northwest, all your club would have to do is supply
the PNGA office with a copy of a list or roster of your regular
golfing members’ addresses. If your club is part of GHIN,
a USGA Service, all that has to be done is to maintain your members’
addresses directly through your club’s computer. The PNGA
pledges to only use these addresses for the specific purpose of
mailing our magazine and will not sell or distribute them for any
other purpose. A written guarantee of this can be provided upon
request.

You will also receive a copy of our popular and comprehensive Pacific
Northwest Golf Association Tournament Poster Schedule. It lists
all major amateur and professional events of interest to Northwest
golfers as well as various club events in which your members may
be interested in participating.

The PNGA maintains this state-of-the-art web site, which
contains information and news about the activities of the PNGA.
Through the PNGA Web site, members can instantaneously enter PNGA
championships and take advantage of numerous membership benefits
and golf related discounts.

The PNGA partners each year with the Pacific Northwest Section of
the PGA to conduct the region’s finest consumer golf show
with more than 10,000 golfers attending each spring to try the latest
equipment, purchase the finest in golf merchandise at discount prices,
get tips from local teaching professionals, participate in interactive
games and contests, as well as learn about world-class resorts and
destination spots.

Working closely with the Idaho, Oregon, and Washington golf associations,
the PNGA serves as the administrative headquarters for the Evans
Caddie Scholarship Program in the Northwest. Since the PNGA established
the program in the region in 1948, more than 600 young men and women
caddies from Northwest clubs, who have had excellent grades and
a financial need, have attended major Northwest universities on
a four-year, full tuition and housing scholarship, which is currently
valued between $25,000-$30,000, depending on the university. Presently,
there are approximately 75 Evans Scholars attending Northwest universities.
The PNGA also coordinates a significant fundraising initiative throughout
the region to support our Scholars. Along with Par Club, Bag Tag,
and other special contributions, the PNGA works closely with the
state associations to conduct three “Evans Cup” fundraising
tournaments each year. In 2000, these three events raised almost
$250,000 for Northwest Evans Scholars.

In 1967, largely under the guidance of PNGA Past President, Carl
Jonson, the PNGA played a key role in creating the Pacific Coast
Golf Association (PCGA). Each year, the PCGA conducts one of North
America’s premier amateur competitions, the Pacific Coast
Amateur Championship. The PNGA and it Trustees to the PCGA annually
selects a team of three players who compete in the Championship.
The PCGA’s original mission was to conduct a golf championship
of excellence where amateurs from the western United States could
showcase their skills to facilitate their selection to America’s
prestigious Walker Cup team. The first Pacific Coast Amateur Championship
in 1967 was sponsored by the PNGA and was held at the historic Seattle
Golf Club, in Seattle, Washington. Today, the PCGA is comprised
of Trustees and Executive Directors from 17 member amateur golf
associations from North America and the Pacific Rim. The administrative
headquarters for the PCGA is housed within the Seattle offices of
the PNGA and Washington State Golf Association.

Every other year, the PNGA hosts representatives from each state
and provincial amateur golf association in the Northwest and conducts
a Course and Slope Rating calibration seminar to assist in ensuring
standardized ratings throughout the region.
The PNGA is fortunate to have one individual on staff, among only
a handful in North America, who are recognized by the United States
Golf Association (USGA) as “Master Course Raters.”

The PNGA administers the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame and
conducts induction ceremonies every other year recognizing outstanding
Northwest golfers who have made extraordinary contributions to the
game. Memorabilia from the PNGA’s past is displayed at Association
headquarters and information about golf’s past in the Northwest
can be accessed by PNGA members through Association resources.

Every year, the PNGA Championship Committee reviews the competitive
records of players from throughout the region and recognizes the
individuals who have compiled the most outstanding accomplishments
and awards them the Pacific Northwest Player of the Year Award.
One individual in each of the following categories is recognized:
Men, Women, Senior men, Senior Women, Junior Boys, Junior Girls.

Every year, a Committee comprised of all living PNGA Past Presidents
selects a recipient(s) of the PNGA Distinguished Service Award in
recognition of meritorious service to amateur golf, not necessarily
as a competitive player. Along with induction into the PNGA Hall
of Fame, this prestigious award is considered the Association’s
highest honor.

In an effort to foster goodwill with the various media representatives
and outlets in the Northwest, the PNGA houses the administrative
affairs of the Northwest Golf Media Association (NWGMA).
The NWGMA disseminates pertinent and timely golf related information
and stories to media throughout the region. The Association holds
quarterly Board of Director meetings and an annual championship.
It also presents an annual Distinguished Service Award to members
of the media who have made significant contributions in reporting
and promoting game.

Through unique partnerships and “co-branding opportunities,”
the PNGA will, from time to time, make available to its members,
various golf related discounts and benefits. This may include such
things as travel discounts to the opportunity to purchase a product
or service at a special price. These discounts and benefits will
be promoted in Pacific Northwest Golfer magazine, on the PNGA’s
Web site, and through various notices and announcements.

By making a contribution to the PNGA Patrons of Golf program, you can make an investment in the future of the association
and it's many worthwhile programs, including the PNGA championships, Pacific Northwest Golfer magazine, the PNGA Hall of Fame,
and the development of a building fund for Northwest Golf House, the future home of the PNGA. Your contribution will also
benefit the PNGA's golf-related charities such as the Evans Scholarship program, junior golf, and turfgrass research. At the
same time, you will also receive some great benefits, and a tax deduction!
