Evans Cup of Washington

August 18, 2008
Meridian Valley Country Club ~ Kent, Wash.

This year’s popular event will be held at the popular Meridian Valley Country Club on Monday, August 18, 2008. With the continued popularity of this annual event, the WSGA expects the field to fill quickly. Clubs and businesses are encouraged to field teams of individuals that will actively bid on the outstanding silent and live auction items at the conclusion of play; it is through these auctions that the majority of funds benefiting our Evans Scholars are raised. You are also encouraged to send in your entry, with payment, by the registration deadline of July 25, 2008 to guarantee a spot for your team. We look forward to seeing you at this great event!”

The Evans Cup tournaments were created to raise funds for the more than 60 Evans Scholars attending Northwest universities. Each event includes a sumptuous brunch followed by a net-team competition, with each team comprised of four amateurs and one professional. All vie for the coveted crystal Evans Cup.

In the evening, contestants and guests enjoy cocktails and a silent auction prior to an exciting live auction and lavish dinner.

The tournament day includes all amenities, including hosted on-course food and bverages, range balls, golf carts, contests, special gifts and prizes, creating an unforgettable day for participants. The reward of the day is the knowledge that you have helped gifted young men and women reach their goals of attending a university.

Everyone is eligible to play in the event. Get a group of friends together, have your company sponsor a squad or enlist a team from your club. Remember that the goal of the tournament is to heighten the awareness of the Evans Scholarship and to provide caddies with educational opportunities.

For more information on either of the Evans Cup tournaments, please contact the Pacific Northwest Golf Association at 800-643-6410 or e-mail amanda@thepnga.org.

Evans Cup of Oregon

September 22, 2008
Riverside Golf and Country Club, Portland, Ore.

This year’s popular event will take place at Riverside Golf and Country Club on Monday, September 22, 2008. With the continued popularity of this annual event, we expect the field to fill quickly. Clubs are encouraged to field teams of individuals that will actively bid on the outstanding live auction items at the conclusion of play; it is through these auctions that the majority of funds benefiting our Evans Scholars are raised. You are also encouraged to send in your entry, with payment, by the registration deadline of August 22, 2008 to guarantee a spot for your team. Entries returned without the entry fee paid in full will be placed in a hold status until full payment is received.

Each year, the Pacific Northwest Golf Association (PNGA) and the Oregon Golf Association (OGA) join together to conduct this first-class event consisting of a day filled with great golf, gourmet food, and upscale silent and live auction items. The funds generated from this event helps the OGA and PNGA support the Evans Scholars that attend the University of Oregon and Oregon State University. Presently, the OGA and PNGA support over 40 Evans Scholars at U of O and OSU, with each four year, full tuition and housing grant valued at approximately $30,000 each.

The Evans Scholars Foundation, sponsored by the Western Golf Association, administers the largest privately-funded sports-related college scholarship program in the nation. Since 1930, more than 8,000 outstanding young caddies – both men and women – have earned their college degrees as Evans Scholars. In order for high school students to qualify they must be nominated by their golf club and meet the following four requirements: rank in the top 25 percent of their high school class, have a superior caddie record for two or more years, show financial need, and have outstanding personal character.

The PNGA is a 501(c) 3 charitable, international amateur golf association dedicated to preserving the true spirit of the game of golf and promoting activities beneficial to golfers in the Pacific Northwest region of North America. Over the past 100 years, the Association has been a pioneer in developing competitions and services to its members. Today, the PNGA remains committed to being a truly "regional" organization providing benefits and services to its members and member clubs throughout the Northwest. The PNGA territory is broken down into five zones, which are: Zone 1 - Oregon; Zone 2 - Eastern Washington; Zone 3 - Western Washington and Alaska; Zone 4 - British Columbia and Alberta; and Zone 5 - Idaho and Montana. The PNGA currently has 687 member clubs and approximately 225,000 individual members.

The OGA is a non-profit entity of more than 250 private, public and associate clubs throughout Oregon and SW Washington with over 56,000 individual members. As guardian of the game in Oregon, their mission is to foster the enhancement and expansion of the game of golf by leading in the development of member and information services, the promotion of opportunities for all that want to play, and protection of the game’s integrity and valued traditions.
