Pemberton, British Columbia (September 14, 2007) – 15-feet, a smooth stroke, and the win. Sandy Harper of Nanaimo, BC rolled in his final birdie putt on 18 to go 8-under and take home the crystal as the winner of the 23rd PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship being played at Big Sky Golf & Country Club in Pemberton, British Columbia. Erik Hanson of Kirkland, Wash. put down his 10-foot birdie putt on 18 to get himself to 6-under and stand alone as the week’s runner-up.
Harper never faltered and for the second time this week managed to go the entire day bogey free. His final round 68 consisted of a birdie on the 413-yard par 4, 2nd along with birdies on the 10th, 11th, and 18th holes. Harper made a total of 3 bogeys for 54 holes.
John Cassidy of Yelm, Wash. and Ben Griffin of Victoria, BC began the day 2 strokes behind the leader and stayed in the hunt the entire round. In the end, both players fired a 3-under 69 to get to 5-under for the tournament and remain 3 strokes back. The northwest’s top mid-amateurs could not have asked for a better golf course and better weather for what has become a successful and exciting week.
Format: 54-hole stroke play competition (cut to low 60 and ties after 36-holes)
