Creswell, Ore. (Saturday, July 14) – Medalist, Jake Younan-Wise of Kingscliff, Australia, went the distance, lasting 6 days to win the 106th PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship, being played at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell, Oregon.

Younan-Wise, a member of the Texas Tech golf team, proved he could outlast the original field of 168 by defeating Patrick Nagle of Pacifica, Calif. 3 and 2 in the final 36-hole match.

Younan-Wise never trailed in the match.  Nagle made bogey on the first hole to give Younan-Wise a 1-up advantage.  Nagle got the match to all square after nine holes of play, but that was the last time the match was even.  After the first 18 holes of play, Younan-Wise was 2-up.

In the second 18 holes of the match, Younan-Wise made a birdie on the 19th hole to go 3-up.  Younan-Wise kept the match at 2-up or better and closed it out on the 16th hole to win the match 3 and 2.

Nick Flanagan was the last Australian to win the PNGA Men’s Amateur.  Flanagan won in 2003 at Royal Oaks Country Club in Vancouver, Washington.  Flanagan went on to win the 2003 U.S. Amateur Championship.
