Ocean Shores, Wash. (Thursday, August 23, 2007)
–  Rui Li of Kent, Wash. and Seo Hee Moon of Mukilteo, Wash. both shot 76 today but Li managed to keep her 1 hole lead through the last 6 holes to win the 52nd PNGA Junior Girls Amateur Championship being played at Ocean Shores Golf Course in Ocean Shores, Wash.

Two of the northwest’s top junior golfers kept it close throughout the match, exchanging leads for the final time on the 12th hole.

The excitement didn’t end at the championship match. The 8:26am, fourth flight championship match between McKennon Cimmiyotti of Pendleton, Ore. and Cali Hipp of Caldwell, Idaho went to the 21st hole.  After winning the first hole, Cimmiyotti managed to maintain her lead through the turn and into the 16th hole.  Hipp, vying for a comeback won the 17th hole and halved the next to take the match into extra holes.  But Cimmiyotti, staying conservative, made par on the 21st hole to take the win.

The championship went off this week without a hitch thanks to the amazing staff at Ocean Shores Golf Course including head professional, Curt Zander and his wife Tonya Zander.  A PNGA Championship is never complete without its volunteer staff and a special thanks goes out to Buck Meacham, Russ Wing, Paul Lucien, Lynda Adams, Chuck King, Betty Jean Hulteng, Delores Monohan and tournament chairwoman, Kaydee Mounce for all of their help throughout the week.

The championship consists of 18 holes of stroke play qualifying that determined flights for the match play portion of the championship.  The lowest 16 scorers from the qualifying rounds advanced to the Championship Flight, with each of the remaining flights being comprised of eight contestants. All matches are 18 holes and played at scratch (no handicaps). Contestants that lost their first round matches today will form drop flights.

To be eligible for the Pacific Northwest Junior Girls’ Amateur Championship, contestants must be 17 years of age or younger as of August 23rd , and also carry a handicap index of 40.4 or less.
