Burley, Idaho. (Friday, August 17, 2007) – In what would prove to be the toughest, hottest and longest match of the week, it was Jens Bracht of Lake Forest Park, Wash who kept it together through 35 holes to beat Dylan Goodwin of Mukilteo, Wash, 2 & 1 in the 53rd PNGA Junior Boys Amateur Championship at Burley Golf Course in Burley, Idaho.
Jens Bracht
2007 Junior Boys' champion
Though Goodwin put up a strong fight in both morning and afternoon rounds, Bracht maintained the focus that he demonstrated all week and that focus went unmatched. Trading leads all morning, Bracht came out on top after the first 18 holes at 1 up. But Goodwin, making a run on the front nine in the second half of the match, won holes 4,5 and 8 with two birdies and a par to go 2 up. This is where it gets good. Bracht would go on to win the next five holes in a row with three birdies and two pars to get his lead back to 4 up through the 32nd hole. Goodwin would fire back by draining his 20-foot birdie put on 15 and making par on 16 to give himself a shot at a comeback. Bracht was 2 up with 2 holes to play.
Goodwin put his ball to the back of the green on the 150-yard, par 3 17th while Bracht left himself with a 40 foot putt from the right fringe. It was dormie and Bracht knew it. He drained his 40 footer for birdie and the win.
